About me

I mean sure, your pet sitter she/her *says* they grew up with monkeys.
Actually, they were Squirrel Monkeys.
They belonged to my mother, who was the repository of all animals no one else wanted.

(The squirrel monkey is highly intelligent, and is known to have the largest brain to body mass ratio of all the monkey species.) Thanks, Wild Republic!

Why she had them? I have no idea. She had a massive cage for them, and let me feed them sometimes, but never unsupervised & they were never allowed out when I was home. Yes, they were wild animals and should have never been taken from their homes, but here they were in the deeeep south in the 70's. She cared for them, feeding them monkey biscuits (like Milk Bones for Monkeys), and fruits & veggies, and I remember one of them had a fondness for beer.

I picked up mothers gift for acquiring strange  animals, and ended up with a skunk (named Pepe, IKR?) who was female, used a litter box and ate dry cat food (yikes) right alongside my cat. She was the sweetest little creature. She put up with a child giving her baths, drying and combing her fur, and trimming her nails. The epitome of patience. I would absolutely own another skunk with no problem.

I volunteered as a kid at my local veterinarian, and learned how to hold animals properly, I worked for a time at a very tiny pet shop and learned about the tiny animals and their care.

I've also owned Ringneck Doves (one lived 14 years), rescued Opossum babies, kept my biology teachers snakes over the summer (including a very angry moccasin) and every cat that showed up at our doors usually ended up living there (it was the south in the 70's and 80's, people dumped animals like garbage all the time). As an adult, I mainly stuck to cats and dogs, but the occasional Hedgehog, Opossum, Chickens, or Virginia Racer (pulled from my car's engine compartment) shared my space.

During these years my mother would housesit for people, and would drag her child along with her. I learned her habits of care and protection of other peoples possessions and pets. She was very detailed and would make notes constantly. Thank heavens for the Time to Pet app. It's been wonderful for helping me be even more detailed than she was.

Who runs my life now.

Keepers

Jet City Pets Office Manager

I have never been without a cat, and I never went looking for one. Even now, my current cats Keepers, who showed up as a 6 month old kitten on the back deck of a 2nd story condo, I never could find her owner, where she came from or how she managed to get up there, so she stayed. It's been 16 years that she's owned me. She's starting to show signs of feline dementia, and has stage 3 kidney disease.

The Major

Jet City Pets Morale Officer

The Major, who lived outside next door to me for a year. I watched him grow up, we had a casual "Hi, how are you relationship", and when his owners were evicted, they packed up everything except him. Once I realized it, I took him in. I tried to rehome him once, sadly, it didn't work out, so here he is making my life very interesting.
